Gallery @ The Wooden Mouse
Set in the heart of Rochester High Street, The Wooden Mouse has long been a place dedicated to craftsmanship, restoration and creative learning. Founded around the preservation of heritage skills, it is home to The Wooden Mouse School of French Polishing, led by Stewart Kemp, a Master French Polisher with more than 30 years of experience.
Over time, The Wooden Mouse has grown beyond a workshop into a creative space for traditional crafts, restoration, upholstery, woodwork, art sessions and hands-on learning. Its focus on skill, patience and making by hand has made it a fitting home for another creative chapter.
Today, The Wooden Mouse is also home to Heather Christie Art Gallery, bringing Heather’s own artwork together with selected local artists and makers. The result is a warm, characterful space where heritage craft and contemporary creativity sit side by side in the heart of Rochester.

My artwork is inspired by the world around me, from beautiful coastlines and city streets to wildlife and meaningful commissions. I love painting pieces that feel uplifting, personal and full of life.
As well as original paintings, I also offer prints and smaller pieces, so there are different ways for people to enjoy and collect my work.

I’m now bringing that work into a more personal setting through Heather Christie Art Gallery, based within The Wooden Mouse in historic Rochester, Kent.
This is something I’m incredibly excited about. I wanted to create a space that feels welcoming and relaxed - somewhere people can come in, look around, enjoy the artwork and feel comfortable spending time in the space.
It isn’t about being formal or intimidating. It’s about making art feel accessible, friendly and part of everyday life.
